Wisconsin International Scholars (WISc) Program
For undergraduate students interested in adding an international dimension to their education

   

Eligibility

* Please note that at this time, the WISc program will be accepting applications only from high school students who will be first-semester freshmen in the fall of 2008.

Minimum Criteria for Consideration

Academic excellence: overall rank in class (top 10%), or a GPA of 3.6 or better on a 4.0 scale at the end of junior year, or a minimum ACT score of 30, or a minimum SAT Verbal + Math score of 1300.

Language preparation: minimum of 3 years of language study or demonstrated proficiency in at least one language beyond English.

Additional elements considered in the selection process:

  • Demonstrated international interest: including participation in an overseas program, participation in a mock UN or other internationally based program, elective coursework with an international focus.
  • Background and experience: examples include diversity of work experiences, education, accomplishments, social and academic activities, special challenges, etc.
  • Language Interest: commitment to learning more than one language in addition to English.
  • Leadership potential: examples include participation in student government, team captain or club organizer, organizer in a service learning project, or major role in neighborhood or family.
  • Diversity: The program is committed to enhancing the learning experience through diversity in the group of participants. Diversity includes but is not limited to ethnicity, race, gender, disability or other disadvantaged status.
  • Geographical diversity: An applicant’s geographical home base (rural, urban, suburban, regional) may be considered in the selection process if this area of residence is underrepresented in the class.
